Conditions of Employment:

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's level preferred) in one of the following: Agriculture, Environmental Science, Public Administration or related discipline
  • Extensive experience in the agriculture industry relating to agricultural production, agri-ecology, land use planning, agri-engineering, or climate change
  • Management experience with responsibility for human and financial resources
  • Proven ability as a leader with a commitment to create, support and sustain a diverse environment that enables staff to achieve results and to develop for the future
  • Experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans, and experience with strategic performance management and measurement systems (e.g. Key Performance Indicators, Balanced Scorecards)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience managing internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Strong political acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions to issues, and successfully manage change
  • Knowledge of the issue of climate change and its affect on the agriculture industry
  • Experience leading the development, review and delivery of policy and programs
Desired:
  • Experience building relationships with Indigenous people and implementing the principles of reconciliation
Duties:
The Director of the Land Use and Ecosystem Resilience is responsible and accountable for providing leadership and management to enable the long-term sustainability, productivity and resilience of Manitoba’s agro-ecosystem. This is accomplished through leadership in climate change resilience and adaptation, soil survey and ag weather monitoring and modelling, directing and delivering management of agricultural Crown lands (ACL), promoting beneficial land management practices, multiple-use land planning, and supporting policy development and associated programming, while respecting treaty land entitlement agreement implementation and historic land administration obligations.

The director is responsible for their Branch’s strategic and business planning, staffing, and budgeting and overseeing program delivery.  The positions represent Manitoba on provincial and national committees.
