Introduction
The Consumer Protection Office administers consumer protection legislation for the province of Manitoba, and assists consumers and businesses to effectively identify and manage marketplace issues. This position will play a key role in communicating the broad range of protections available to consumers and developing materials that educate both the public and businesses about their rights and responsibilities and the mandate of the Consumer Protection Office.

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Undergraduate degree in business or social sciences or a diploma in public relations, marketing, management, or creative communications  along with experience in the communication field or suitable combination of training and experience
  • Excellent written communication skills with experience creating written materials with quality suitable for senior government officials and publishing on website and social media platforms
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to present at public events 
  • Experience interpreting, clarifying or elaborating on policies or initiatives to internal clients or the public
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively work with internal and external clients 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with experience working in a high-volume, fast paced environment with fluctuating deadlines and competing priorities
  • Experience creating documents that require strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively in a team 

Desired:
  • Ability to exercise  discretion and political acumen 
Duties:

Reporting to the Manager of Policy and Legislation, the Education and Outreach Officer is responsible for planning and developing content and materials on Manitoba's consumer protection legislation and programs for consumers, businesses and other stakeholders. The content and materials, such as fact sheets, news releases, and content for the branch website and social media, may be general in nature or specific to an industry, product/service or transaction type.  As required, the Education and Outreach Officer will coordinate with other government offices to develop, procure and publish branch materials. The incumbent is also responsible for developing and coordinating outreach activities  such as presentations, as well as participating at events, such as trade shows.
