The success candidate must have an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, or be graduating by Spring 2018 or equivalent qualifications as recognized by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba, be enrolled (or eligible to enroll) as a Member-In-Training with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba and not already in Manitoba Infrastructure's Engineer-In-Training Program.

We are looking for recent Civil Engineering graduates or equivalent (as accepted by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba) to start a challenging and rewarding career building the future of Manitoba.

This position will be of interest to candidates wishing to pursue a rewarding career in water resources engineering. We offer a structured comprehensive EIT Development Program where we provide you with training and experience to support your goal of becoming a Professional Engineer.  With your current experience as the foundation, your personal development plan will ensure that you get experience performing varied and challenging work related to management of hydro-meteorological databases, development of flood reports and flood outlooks, hydrologic modelling and model development, and GIS based analysis of hydrologic processes. We will support your professional and educational development with in-house and external training and provide guidance and mentorship through our large dynamic group of Professional Engineers. The Hydrologic Forecasting Branch of the Department of Infrastructure is primarily responsible for issuing flood condition reports, forecasts and warnings to enable effective coordination of flood response planning and flood fighting activities at all levels of government and the private sector. The Branch also controls operation of dams across the province, reviews development and subdivision proposals to ensure they comply with provincial regulations related to water and water management, provides hydrotechnical expertise for the design and approval of flood proofing and water control infrastructure, and performs hydrotechnical analysis and modelling to determine impacts of developments, land use changes and climate change on water regimes.
 

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must have an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent approved by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
  • Must be enrolled (or eligible) as an Member in Training with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
  • Must be able to work occasional extended hours
  • Must be able to travel frequently to work sites within the province by ground and/or air transportation. Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment in winter/ summer with possible exposure to hazards as described in OSHRM safe work practices
 
Qualifications:
 
Essential:
  • Experience in and knowledge of hydrologic analysis and processes which can include, but is not limited to, hydrologic modelling, forecasting, statistical analysis, research, and other water resources applications 
  • Experience with GIS, database systems, hydrotechnical software programs, and computer programming 
  • Strong Written Communication Skills

Duties:
This is an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) position under the guidance/direction of a Professional Engineer.  The objective of this position is to develop the incumbent into a Project Engineer (EG2).  Following successful completion of Manitoba Infrastructure's (MI) EIT Development Program and upon receiving your professional designation, you will be eligible for promotion to the Engineer 2 level.
