The Residential Tenancies Branch is responsible for the resolution of landlord and tenant disputes regarding security deposits, repairs, utilities and other general disputes through investigation, mediation and adjudication. It is also responsible for the regulation of rent increases and enforcing compliance with the regulation. The Branch advises landlords and tenants on the requirements of the legislation through public speaking engagements, correspondence, in-person meetings and by telephone. The Client Services Officer works as part of a team, responding to a high volume of telephone calls and emails, conducts in-person meetings with the public, processes applications, schedules hearings, and manages a caseload of dispute files.

Reporting to the Client Services Coordinator, the Client Services Officer provides accurate information to the public on The Residential Tenancies Act, The Life Leases Act and tenancy related sections of The Condominium Act. Information is provided by telephone, personal interview, email, written correspondence and by participating in public education programs and speaking presentations. The Client Services Officer provides assistance to landlords and tenants to resolve residential tenancy disputes informally or by mediated agreement. Other duties include investigating and attempting to resolve security deposit, pet damage deposits and tenant services deposits, and drafting a recommendation for action if the dispute is not mediated.
