The Funeral Board of Manitoba administers The Funeral Directors and Embalmers Act, The Cemeteries Act and The Prearranged Funeral Services Act. It is a quasi-judicial board that oversees the funeral profession by receiving complaints and holding hearings. This regulatory body licences funeral directors, embalmers, funeral homes, cemeteries, crematories, columbaria, mausoleums, as well as cemetery and prearranged funeral sales agents.

The Administrative Officer receives, processes and distributes incoming licence applications; handles processing of prescribed fees; and is responsible to maintain efficient and accurate filing systems. The incumbent is responsible to ensure all documentation is complete and accurate; reviews and designs processes and forms to ensure compliance with legislative requirements. The incumbent receives and reviews incoming complaints and determines if a breach of the applicable legislation occurred. The Administrative Officer compiles research and completes jurisdictional scans when drafting authority seeking documents. The incumbent coordinates Board hearings; responds to inquiries from the public and senior departmental staff; initiates and composes correspondence and reports for the Board and departmental staff as needed. The Administrative Officer provides assistance to internal and external stakeholders including the Funeral Board of Manitoba, legal counsel, the bereavement industry and members of the general public regarding the application of statutes, regulations, and the Funeral Board of Manitoba policies.
