Qualifications:
Applicants must be recognized as Spiritual Caregivers by the Aboriginal community and have contributed to Aboriginal spiritual growth and culture within a community, including leading/performing ceremonies and spiritual activities. Experience networking with related agencies and knowledge of community Aboriginal resources are required. Proven organizational and communication skills with the ability to solve problems effectively. Experience working with Aboriginal people in conflict with the law, as well as experience providing counseling in a culturally appropriate way and delivering programs would be an asset. Candidates require the ability to handle sensitive situations with staff, offenders and the public. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for issues and concerns of Aboriginal offenders within a correctional environment. The ability to cope with pressure and stress while meeting multiple deadlines is necessary. This is a position of trust and as a result, the successful candidate must possess integrity, sound work and personal ethics and be a proven team player who is able to work with staff, Chaplains and other faith group volunteers. The ability to communicate in an Aboriginal language would be an asset. Please include three (3) letters of support from Elders/Aboriginal Spiritual Caregivers with your resumé/application.

Duties:
As a member of the Spiritual Caregivers' team, the Aboriginal Spiritual Caregiver will conduct appropriate ceremonies and other spiritual activities, will be present and visible throughout the Centre and provide individual, group and family counseling. The successful candidate will work co-operatively with staff and will be required to integrate Aboriginal spirituality and culture into the every day activities of the Winnipeg Remand Centre. This position provides resource contact information in the community for release planning.
