Water Management and Structures ensures safe and effective provincial water control infrastructure and structures, through the delivery of inspection, planning, design, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction activities.  The Division is responsible for the overall management of infrastructure inventory that includes: bridges, large culverts, thru-dike culverts, drains, dams, reservoirs, water control structures, diversions and pumping stations. The Division also provides water management through operation of the provincial water control system, flood forecasting, and development and implementation of emergency response plans.

  • Valid class 5.0 drivers licence. 
  • Ability to travel by air and ground transportation with some overnight stays. 
  • Ability to work extended hours as required. 
 

Qualifications:

 
Essential:
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a combination of related education and experience may be considered. 
  • Experience in hydraulics and water resource science and management.
  • Experience working with GIS Software geospatial databases (preferably ESRI Arc GIS software) and pre and post processing tools for hydraulic models. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve and make decisions or recommend alternative solutions. 
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations. 
 
Desired:
  • Experience in agricultural drainage and related agronomics.
 

Duties:

The Senior Waterway Planning Technologist undertakes specialist technical services for the strategic planning of the Province’s agricultural land drainage infrastructure network. They are responsible for providing specialist technical services related to water management planning exercises, investigations of water-related problems and disputes, planning and feasibility analysis, and conceptual design of physical water infrastructure works. They also participate in broader watershed and basin-based water management assessment and planning exercises; and provides hydraulic and water management services to the flood forecasting branch during flood periods.
