Manitoba Health has an excellent opportunity for a qualified physician to practice in an innovative and collaborative provincial public health system. The position is located in Brandon which is the second largest city in Manitoba and is located in the southwestern area of the province. Brandon has a population of 46,000 and is home to Brandon University and Assiniboine Community College as well as the Brandon Wheat Kings hockey team.

Qualifications:
Essential:
- Physician with advanced training or combination of training and experience in public health, including Fellowship in Community Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Masters/PhD in Public Health or Community Health Sciences
- Physician required to be licensed (or eligible) to practice medicine in Manitoba
- Knowledge, expertise and leadership in regards to population health assessment, surveillance, health protection, disease and injury prevention, health promotion and advocacy to reduce health inequities
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse and multi stakeholder groups
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills

Duties:
This position is responsible for providing leadership and expertise, advice, and service in public health as part of the regional team of Medical Officers of Health (MOHs) in the Brandon Regional Health Authority (RHA). MOHs are appointed by the Minister of Health and have legislated authorities/duties under the Public Health Act. They also provide health expertise at the senior management level of the RHAs. Responsibilities include monitoring and assessing the health of the public, investigating and mitigating immediate risks to the public health; communicate to public and health professionals on public health issues; contribute to policy and program development; maintain medical knowledge of the core public health sciences including epidemiology, communicable diseases, environmental hazards, health promotion and preventive medicine. MOHs participate in the provincial 24/7 on call service for public health urgent and emergency events.
