Duties:
The Director is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and monitoring of complex and multifaceted policies and projects related to seniors and long-term care. The Director leads the team responsible for the implementation of the Ministers mandate items which include increasing the number of long-term care beds in Manitoba; working towards more direct hours of care for seniors in personal care homes; and, more home care and community-based support so seniors can live independently as long as they feel comfortable.
Qualifications: Essential:
Formal post-secondary education with undergraduate degree in public administration, business administration, health or social sciences, and/or an acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Experience in the policy and practice of seniors, home and community care, long-term care and working knowledge of current trends and developments in these areas
Knowledge of all aspects of the policy cycle, including policy analysis, policy writing, and policy consultation
Must be a team leader committed and experienced in building team engagement and capacity through establishing and maintaining strong lines of communication, trusting relationships, accountability and employee development
Experience and ability leading or supervising a team including recruitment, new employee orientation, assigning work, performance management and coaching
Excellent political acumen skills demonstrated through using knowledge to identify potential impacts and influence decisions
Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write politically sensitive and confidential materials for senior leaders
Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate to all levels of the organization and to communicate to external stakeholders
Knowledge of change management principles and experience managing change
Experience preparing budgets, forecasting, and managing program funds
