The Department of Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures is seeking highly motivated individuals interested in filling the role of Resource Management Technician(s) (RS2) in the Churchill District.

Duties:
Under the supervision and guidance of the District Conservation Officers (CO’s), the employee aids with the delivery of the departments multi-discipline resource management program and the Polar Bear Alert Program, both in field and administratively. The incumbent deals with human-wildlife conflicts and maintains the district infrastructure, equipment, and grounds. This position will also accompany the district CO’s on various types of patrols throughout the season (i.e.: boat, snowmobile, ATV, etc.) and provides guidance on backcountry areas of the district.  During the period of peak polar bear activity in Churchill the incumbent will work an on-call rotation and monitor The Polar Bear Alert phone line 24 hours a day and respond to polar bear occurrences accordingly and as a part of a team.

Qualifications:
Essential:

• Experience and ability operating and maintaining district equipment (ATV, small engines, boats and motors, trailers),as well as infrastructure maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge and/or experience with problem wildlife management practices.
• Knowledge and/or experience with safe firearm use and handling. 
• Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and work independently with limited supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions in stressful and time-sensitive environments.
• Strong verbal communication skills.

Desired:

• Experience in mechanical, carpentry, building maintenance and minor repair of equipment using power and hand tools.
• Experience with wildlife biological sampling, data collection and maintaining records.

Conditions of Employment:

• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

• Possess and maintain a valid Canadian Firearms Licence (PAL)
• Possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5F driver's licence
• Must possess and maintain a current and satisfactory Manitoba Child Abuse Registry Check
• Must not have been convicted of a natural resource based infraction and must remain in good standing throughout employment in this position. NOTE: Candidates with a previous infraction may be considered for employment, subject to review and approval by the Chief Conservation Officer. 
• Must be willing to work weekends, overtime, and be on call all hours of the day
• Must be able to meet Department Problem Wildlife Firearm Training and Certifications Standard
• Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, walking on uneven terrain and working in adverse weather conditions
• Must possess and maintain a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. NOTE: Having a criminal record does not automatically prevent you from being considered for this position. Criminal records will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the duties and responsibilities of the position
