The Forestry and Peatlands Branch manages extensive spatial datasets to support the sustainable stewardship of Manitoba’s forest and peatland resources. As a GIS Analyst, you will play a key role in supervising GIS technicians and assisting the Senior GIS and Database Management Specialist in the collection, storage, maintenance, and analysis of forestry-related spatial data. You will contribute to the creation of high-quality information products—including maps, reports, and web apps—tailored to meet project goals and stakeholder needs. This position also supports the ongoing development of GIS capabilities within the Branch and helps inform decision-making through the design and implementation of program specific dashboards.

Duties:
The GIS Analyst plays a central role in coordinating geospatial activities within the Forestry and Peatlands Branch. This position is responsible for conducting data analysis and conversion, and for working collaboratively with Section and Branch staff to ensure GIS technologies effectively support the information and operational needs of the Inventory and Analysis section and the broader Branch. The incumbent will proactively identify opportunities to enhance existing systems, databases, and workflows, and will work with their supervisor to develop and implement practical solutions. A key aspect of this role includes designing and developing program-specific dashboards that deliver near real-time data to staff, supervisors, managers, and the public—supporting informed decision-making and improved service delivery.
