Forestry and Peatlands Branch collects, stores, maintains, updates and analyses large spatial data sets to help in the effective management of these resources. The GIS Technician supports the GIS and remote sensing work done within the Branch and is a critical component of the high performance GIS team within the Inventory and Analysis section. This entry level position exposes the incumbent to a rich world of spatial data, data editing/analysis and the communication of information using maps, charts, tables and reports.

Duties:
This position supports Branch Geographic Information Systems (GIS) requirements by operating specialized computer software (e.g. ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) to edit and display geospatial data. This position also uses specialty software to processes raw UAV (drone) imagery data into information products. This position will support other GIS staff and compliment them in the work that supports the section and the Branch, allowing the senior staff to take on more complex work.
