The Department of Environment and Climate Change is seeking a qualified and skilled candidate to fill a Regional Drinking Water Officer position in Winnipeg. The Office of Drinking Water Branch is responsible for administering and enforcing The Drinking Water Safety Act and its regulations, licences, permits, advisories and orders to protect public health.

The Regional Drinking Water Officer will facilitate the continued safety and ongoing quality improvement of Manitoba’s drinking water by overseeing water system compliance with The Drinking Water Safety Act and regulations. Reporting to the Senior Regional Drinking Water Officer, the incumbent is responsible for licencing and monitoring water systems including through onsite inspections and sampling; working with Medical Officers of Health to issue and rescind water quality advisories; tracking offences and enforcing compliance by issuing letters of direction, warnings and tickets in accordance with a progressive enforcement strategy; providing guidance and technical expertise about drinking water safety to water suppliers and the public; and contributing to special projects (e.g. policy or procedure development) as needed.
