The Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth (MACY) is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly and is independent of government. The Manitoba Advocate’s statutory mandate includes representing the rights, interests, and viewpoints of children, youth, and young adults receiving any designated or reviewable services as described under The Advocate for Children and Youth Act. The Manitoba Advocate also reviews and reports upon the standards and quality of those reviewable and designated services provided to children, youth, and young adults who have died, to educate the public and to enhance the safety and well-being of Manitoba children, youth, and young adults.

The Researcher analyzes trends, findings, and recommendations arising from the work of the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth (MACY) Office and creates and develops comprehensive special research reports about complex, interdepartmental issues and systemic trends that impact children, youth, and young adults in Manitoba. The purpose of special reports is to educate and inform, and to issue recommendations to improve the responsiveness and effectiveness of public services in Manitoba. The special reports may be made public at the discretion of the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth, and may include formal recommendations to government ministers, other senior-level departmental staff, any public body or person, or any organization providing any designated or reviewable service as described in The Advocate for Children and Youth Act. The special reports developed by the incumbent may deal with complex, high profile, or contentious social and political issues, and may refer to and comment on any matter the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth has reviewed or investigated. The incumbent must demonstrate expertise and knowledge of a variety of inter-related social and political issues, research methodologies, protocols, and risk assessment strategies. The incumbent will brief the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth or designate on evidence-informed issues, trends, risks, and opportunities related to any designated or reviewable service or any other matter relevant to the work of MACY.
Competitive process: The competition will include a board interview and a comprehensive written assessment. The successful candidate will be subject to a six (6) month probationary period.
