Introduction
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Learning (EECL) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Consultant, Speech and Language Pathology at the Inclusion Support Branch which will also support the Manitoba School for the Deaf (MSD).

Qualifications:

Essential:
  • A Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology and clinical experience in a K-12 school setting. A combination of speech language pathology course work, a B.Ed. and extensive experience may also be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with language development, including diagnosis of language delays and disorders.
  • Experience administering specialized assessments, with follow up development and implementation of appropriate educational programming through the student specific planning process, to meet the needs of students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work cooperatively with all stakeholders (educational, family, health, and community partners).
  • Knowledge of Deaf culture and bilingual bimodal communication.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple demands and meet deadlines.
  • Experience handling sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).


Desired:
  • Knowledge and experience in using auditory verbal techniques with students who are Deaf/hard of hearing (DHH).
Duties:
This position works as part of an interdisciplinary team, to provide leadership and expertize in the area of speech and language pathology supports for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. This position supports school clinicians, school/division leaders, student services professionals and other educators, as well as families and external agencies.  This position develops and implements appropriate educational programming for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing at the Manitoba School for the Deaf (MSD) and assists in the development of programming in school settings in northern, rural and urban school divisions. This position is also directly involved in diagnosis and therapy related to speech, hearing and language delays/disorders for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) at MSD, as part of their work with the Interdisciplinary Team at MSD. The position plays a role in supervising speech and language pathologists for professional certification throughout Manitoba. Consultants are expected to remain updated through current research, bring feedback from the field and provide information to government in their respective areas of expertise.
