Introduction
The Public Guardian and Trustee of Manitoba (PGT) is a provincial government Special Operating Agency that manages and protects the affairs of Manitobans who are unable to do so themselves and have no one else willing or able to act. This includes mentally incompetent and vulnerable adults, deceased estates and children. This position is with the Accounting Department of the PGT is to provide assistance to over 5,000 clients for whom income tax forms need to be completed and filed, trust accounts need to be managed and benefit applications need to be completed. Many of the forms require calculation of financial information surrounding cash, investments, assets, life insurance policies and income sources.

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Extensive experience preparing Canadian T1/T1 Final and T3 Estate/Trust Returns
  • Experience with Canadian Testamentary Trusts and Inter Vivos Trusts
  • Experience analyzing legal, financial and investment documents that relate to the filing of deceased and Estate returns
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and ensure accuracy of work
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet conflicting deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact co-operatively and professionally with other departmental staff, external agencies, other professionals and the public
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook) or equivalent applications

Desired:
  • Supervisory experience including providing direction and performance management
  • Experience in a professional capacity processing income tax returns using ProFile or other professional tax software
  • Experience preparing Minor-Infant and Personal Injury Trusts
Duties:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Accountant, the Deceased Estate Tax Clerk is responsible to complete T1/T1 Final returns and T3/T3 Final Estate returns.  Files Infant, Adult and Vacant Property Trust returns.  The Deceased Estate Tax Clerk will follow income tax filing procedures in the Public Guardian and Trustee procedure manual and in accordance with CRA filing regulations.  The Deceased Estate Tax Clerk calculates tax holdbacks for compensation reports and pay-outs of Estates and Trusts.
