Introduction
Reporting to the Director, Health and Safety, the incumbent is responsible for the management and administration of the Branch Safety and Risk Control unit. 

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's licence.
  • Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the Province of Manitoba as required.
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Construction Safety Officer (CSO)/National Construction Safety officer (NCSO) certification or an equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience performing safety program audits including the development, interpretation and application of standards.
  • Experience conducting or coordinating incident investigations including collecting, analyzing and reporting on incident data.
  • Experience developing safe work procedures.
  • Supervisory experience with strong leadership skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Experience developing and facilitating training and work groups.
  • Verbal communication skills and the ability to present to various audiences.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines within strict timelines.
  • Knowledge of federal/provincial legislation, recognized safety management principles and safe work practices.

Desired:
  • Experience in road/building construction and maintenance activities and related equipment.
Duties:
The incumbent is responsible for providing technical expertise, consultative services and the ongoing evaluation and development of the Department's workplace safety and health policies, programs and risk control procedures to ensure compliance with the Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act W210, Manitoba Regulation 217/2006 and other related federal and provincial regulations. The incumbent ensures that the department safety management system meets the CSA 21000-06 best practice standard and that the risk management framework, within this standard is applied to the department.
