Introduction
Parks and Regional Services Division of Manitoba Sustainable Development is seeking a qualified individual to fill a seasonal Trades Helper position in Rivers Provincial Park, located near Rivers, Manitoba. 
 

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be physically able to perform the duties of position which may include lifting light and heavy items,bending,reaching,standing and working in various types of outdoor conditions and confined spaces.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Must be able to work with paints, solvents or chemicals and wear personal protective equipment as/when required.
  • Must be ready, willing and able to work evenings, weekends, statutory holidays and overtime as required as well as travel and work in other outlying areas within the Region.
  • Must hold current Manitoba Class 1 Water and Wastewater Certification or be willing and able to acquire within 3 years of employment start date.  NOTE: Grade 12 education or GED diploma is a pre-requisite for obtaining certification.
 
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience performing and/or assisting with the tasks of one or more journeymen such as carpentry, mechanical or plumbing related work and use of the associated journeyman tools.
  • Demonstrated experience performing grounds maintenance ie: mowing grass, trimming trees and landscaping.
  • Demonstrated experience operating grounds equipment (ie: tractors, gas powered trimmers, chainsaws, snowmobiles, ATVs, lawn mowers).
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to complete clear, direct and concise reports.
  • Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and display initiative.
  • Ability to adapt and learn new procedures.
 
Desired:
  • Knowledge of Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulations.
  • Experience servicing and maintaining light duty vehicles and/or grounds equipment.
  • Experience performing janitorial duties.
  • Experience supervising staff including providing training, guidance and direction.
  • Experience reading blue prints and/or plan drawings.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of public water and wastewater systems.
 
Duties:
Under the supervision of the Park Works Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of tasks, involving the regular use of journeyman tools and providing assistance to the Parks Works Supervisor, related to maintenance, operations and construction activities within Rivers Provincial Park and occasionally other Provincial Parks/Wildlife Management areas within the Region.  Under the guidance and direction of the Park Works Supervisor, the incumbent ensures that the water and wastewater systems are operated and maintained as per established regulations, standards and codes.
