Introduction
Family Guide is a social service position within the Courts Division, Family Resolutions Services Branch of the Department of Justice. Family Guide has responsibility for providing high quality services to Manitobans seeking guidance, support, and information through Family Resolution Services.

Duties:
Family Guide provides a range of high-quality dispute resolution services, including conducting court-ordered family evaluations, and facilitating family coaching, family mediations, and other support services for families disrupted by separation and divorce. The incumbent will possess a generalist knowledge base regarding court operations, family law, and intimate partner violence as they provide support and information to parties experiencing separation and divorce through a single window service model. Through their work, Family Guide may support families affected by intimate partner violence, child abuse/children in need of protection, criminal involvement, addictions, and mental health concerns.

Qualifications:
Essential:
  • A Bachelor of Social Work degree or an equivalent related Social Sciences degree, equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered 
  • Extensive case management experience in the social services field providing a full range of direct services to families including: interviewing, performing assessments, planning, counseling, providing referrals and follow-up 
  • Experience in conducting family, psychosocial and risk assessments. 
  • Experience working with families at risk of or experiencing conflict with a culturally trauma-informed approach
  • Effective interpersonal skills including experience providing interventions in crisis or family violence situations for families or couples
  • Effective written communication skills including experience preparing assessment reports 
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of child development, family dynamics and child and youth mental health
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook) or equivalent applications 
Desired:
  • Knowledge of the family law system, including the Family Resolution Service Branch
  • Experience conducting court-ordered family evaluations 
  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate fluently in French.

  • Must be able to provide and maintain satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Must be able to provide and maintain satisfactory Adult and Child Abuse Registry Checks
  • Must be able to provide a valid Manitoba Class 5F driver's licence and access to a vehicle and the ability to travel for government business purposes
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends, on occasion
