Introduction
The Water Science and Watershed Management Branch develops and implements science-based programs, policies, and legislation to support sustainable watershed and aquifer management and planning. The branch also provides leadership and coordinates input into transboundary water management issues.
Duties:
This position leads and coordinates strategic, cross-departmental water initiatives aligned with Manitoba’s Water Management Strategy and Action Plans to support timely and effective implementation. The role provides science-based advice, supports intergovernmental and advisory groups, shares technical and policy information through legislative and public processes, and supports efforts to advance reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples through respectful collaboration and engagement.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Post-secondary degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or natural resource management with a focus on aquatic ecology or limnology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
- Experience in program/project management and planning, including designing, developing, implementing, reporting, and evaluating complex water management-related programs
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation and regulations associated with water management
- Experience analyzing, interpreting, and assessing aquatic ecosystem health using appropriate quantitative and/or qualitative tools
- Ability to supervise the activities of junior staff and summer students
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to present to different audiences
- Excellent written communication skills with experience preparing comprehensive technical reports, brochures, corporate documents and other documents to communicate water stewardship initiatives to a variety of audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain relationships with government officials, Indigenous Peoples, researchers, environmental non-government organizations, and industry associations
- Strong political acumen with the ability to exercise good judgment and discretion
Desired:
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in French.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Must be able to work overtime
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout the province and occasionally outside of Manitoba (within Canada and the United States)
