Introduction
The Family Resolution Service (FRS), a branch within the Court Division of Manitoba Justice, provides services and supports for families navigating separation, divorce and/or intimate partner violence (IPV). The Clare’s Law Program offered by the FRS is a preventative initiative to address IPV and is legislated by Manitoba’s Disclosure to Protect Intimate Partner Violence Act. Clare’s Law provides a pathway for those at risk of IPV to request information about their intimate partner’s documented history of violence and receive safety planning and connections to community based supports. The Safety and Wellness Family Guide is responsible for providing high quality services to Manitobans accessing Clare’s Law.

Duties:
The Family Guide Safety and Wellness Specialist (FG) are a member of a multidisciplinary team who provide services to Manitobans seeking guidance, support, and information related to separation and divorce, and intimate partner/ family violence, child abuse/children in need of protection, criminal involvement, addictions and mental health concerns. They guide them through the complexities of the justice system, providing analysis, interpretation and assessment of families’ needs and ensuring the appropriate intervention. FGs may be appointed by the Minister of Justice under The Court of King’s Bench Act and The Provincial Court Act to deliver court-ordered family evaluations that assist judges in resolving family access disputes in the best interest of the child(ren).
The Family Guide Safety and Wellness Specialist (FG) – Clare’s Law specialises in conducting risk assessments and safety planning for Manitobans applying to the Clare’s Law Program.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Bachelor of Social Work degree or equivalent related Social Sciences degree (i.e. Human Ecology, Family Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Indigenous or Gender Studies etc.). An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Case management experience in a social services environment, providing a full range of direct services to families, including intake, interviewing, assessment, planning, counselling, providing referrals and follow-up.
- Experience conducting family, psycho-social and/or risk assessments.
- Experience completing written reports in adherence with procedures in an impartial, anti-bias, culturally and trauma-informed approach that considers parties’ race, gender, religion, and focuses on the best interest of the child(ren).
- Experience working with families at risk of or experiencing conflict with a culturally trauma informed approach.
- Effective interpersonal skills including experience providing interventions in crisis or family violence situations for families or couples.
- Effective written communication skills in English including experience preparing assessment reports.
- Effective written communication skills in French.
- Effective verbal communication skills in English.
- Effective verbal communication skills in French.
- Effective organizational and time management skills.
Desired:
- Experience or training with intimate partner/family violence, prevention, intervention or restorative justice.
