Introduction
This is a technical field position that is responsible for supporting the delivery, implementation and data collection activities of urban forestry initiatives, including Manitoba's 2 Billion Tree and Dutch elm disease management program.

Duties:
All successful incumbents will be responsible for supporting urban forestry iniatives. Duties include the coordination, organization, inventory, maintenance and distrbution of seedlings and potted stock, data collection and management for urban forestry programs. The successful incumbents participates with and educates the public about urban forestry programs, including communicating with Dutch elm disease communities and homeowners about the Dutch elm disease program, and educates the public and communities regarding tree planting and other urban forestry initiatives. Work is performed both as a team and indivdiually. Successful incubents will work a combination of 5-day and 10-day shifts to perform the duties of the position.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Enrolled in or a graduate of a forestry, natural resource management, urban forestry, arboriculture, or biology degree or diploma program. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working in an outdoor environment.
- Experience collecting, recording and maintaining data.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment, with the public and external stakeholders.
- Able to work independently with strong organizational skills to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal communication, including the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
- Experience driving a variety of vehicles, such as trucks or vans, over a variety of terrain, such as paved highways, gravel roads, and/or forestry roads and trails.
Desired:
- Experience towing trailers for personal or work purposes.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent from other provinces without any restrictions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via trucks, all-terrain vehicles, boats, or rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime when required and work out-of-town for extended periods of up to ten days with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels and tents.
- Must be physically capable of performing duties of the position which require moderate physical effort including moving trees, materials, and forestry samples for long distances potentially over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions.
