Introduction
Capital Projects Planning and Delivery (CPPD) is a division within the Department of Public Service Delivery. CPPD’s core business area responsibilities are Capital planning, technical services support, and the delivery of capital projects for core government departments (excluding the Department of Transportation & Infrastructure, and the Department of Health). Further responsibilities include Central coordination, negotiation, and implementation of federal-provincial cost-shared capital infrastructure programs and projects. Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (EGM)
- Able to provide and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Strong working knowledge of building codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines.
- Experience preparing, reading and interpreting planning and design documents including contract administration and review of construction conformance.
- Highly developed verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Highly developed written communication skills including the ability to prepare technical information to support project planning and execution, and documentation responding to media inquiries and maters related to litigation.
- Ability to undertake independent research and develop proposals to introduce new industry innovations into department operations
- Advanced knowledge with mechanical engineering building systems and design practices, with demonstrated appropriate scope-of-practice experience in design of mechanical systems and features associated with vertical building construction.
- Ability to use AutoCAD and other appropriate industry software tools and technologies to successfully complete engineering design assignments/projects.
Desired:
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience including the ability to plan, assign, monitor and supervise the work of other professional and technical subordinates.
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering; specialized technical training may be a consideration.
- Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health work practices.
Duties:
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer provides specialized engineering services encompassing inspection, condition assessments, safety infrastructure, emergency response, investigations, monitoring, planning input, analysis and design.
Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Design Engineering, the incumbent will provide engineering support in designing and constructing vertical infrastructure capital projects for client departments. This position may directly supervise the work of up to three Design Engineers/ Mechanical Technologists or students.
