As an Accessibility Compliance Officer, no two days are the same. You will have the opportunity to engage at the ground level as our innovative compliance and enforcement program continues to develop. Your work will not just be about investigation and enforcement; it will also be about creating change through awareness and collaboration. You will develop expertise on the practical application of accessibility regulations in various settings and have a significant role in implementing accessibility legislation in Manitoba. Your work will involve interacting with a wide variety of stakeholders affected by accessibility legislation. You never know who you will connect with at organizations in the private, public and non-profit sectors, individuals, industry representatives, municipal officials, business owners, community organizations, disability advocates and members of the public.

Duties:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Accessibility Compliance Secretariat, this position is responsible for promoting, monitoring and ensuring compliance with The Accessibility for Manitobans Act and its associated regulations. The scope and duties include but are not limited to conducting audits and inspections; responding to complaints; investigating allegations of non-compliance; monitoring and managing compliance data; engaging in public communication; raising awareness about accessibility legislation; reviewing policies, tools and resources, as well as participating in internal and external committees.
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Studies, Sociology, Psychology or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in research and interpreting legislation, regulation, policy and procedures.
  • Experience conducting inspections, investigations, audits, quality assurance, or program evaluation to ensure compliance with standards and legislation.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively with the general public.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written communication skills to clearly articulate complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to manage conflict in a calm, confident and respectful manner.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, along with experience using other MS applications such as Word, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively address public complaints.
Desired:
  • Knowledge of The  Accessibility for Manitobans Act.
  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in French.
