Introduction
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking a highly motivated individual to work with our Engineering and Technical Services Division. Technical Services and Operations ensures safe and effective provincial water control infrastructure and structures, through the delivery of an overall management system that addresses the inspection, planning, design, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction activities. The Water Infrastructure Branch is responsible for the inspection, planning, and maintenance/rehabilitation of the provincial water conveyance and control infrastructure (including Dams, Dikes, Drains and Culverts, Diversion Structures, Pump Stations, and Gradient Control Structures). This diverse multi-disciplinary team including geotechnical, hydraulic and structural engineers, and environmental specialists work together for the delivery of multi-million dollar Capital programs throughout the province. Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Must be able to travel frequently to work sites within the province and working for extended hours and periods of time.
- Must be able to work in hazardous conditions such as water, construction equipment, roadway traffic noise, dust, hand/power tools, moving equipment, bending/lifting, carrying/twisting, insects, vegetation and sharp objects.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Civil Engineering Technology Diploma and/or completion of Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure's. A combination of education and experience in hydraulic design may be considered at a commensurate rate of pay.
- Experience in hydraulic analysis and design, including applicable computer software (i.e. HEC-RAS, HY8, Culvert Master, or equivalent and AracGIS).
- Experience in hydraulic investigation and analysis.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external contacts including the public.
- Excellent written communication skills with ability to maintain accurate records, prepare applicable correspondence and technical reports.
- The ability to work independently and analyze information to make effective decisions and/or recommend alternative solutions.
- Knowledge and understanding of survey practices.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge and understanding of Safety, Health and Risk Management policies and procedures.
Desired:
- Knowledge of construction practices and procedures related to water management infrastructure.
- Experience in reading, interpreting and developing construction plans, specifications and contract documents.
Duties:
The Hydraulic Design Technologist is responsible for performing hydraulic engineering activities and technical work relating to inspection, field investigations, flow metering, design and construction of waterways infrastructure, such as technical analysis, preliminary design & detailed design, project management, contract administration, and construction supervision in accordance with Department standards, policies and specifications. Also, provides quality assurance reviews for engineering drawings, reports, plans prepared by regional staff and/or Engineering Service Providers (ESPs) for compliance with the Department’s design and drafting standards for recommendations. Prepares Environmental submissions, and tender documents for works relating to Provincial Water Control Infrastructure.
