Department of Labour and Immigration is seeking a qualified individual to join their team as a Design Surveyor at Inspection and Technical Services Branch located in Winnipeg, MB.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5F driver's license or equivalent from other jurisdiction
  • Ability to travel throughout Manitoba and internationally for extended periods of time
  • Physically capable of performing duties assigned, including working in confined spaces, at heights, and within a variance of ambient temperatures
  • Able to wear all required personal protective equipment, including a respirator
Qualifications:
Essentials:
  • A Degree in Mechanical Engineering, registered with Engineers and Geo Scientists of Manitoba (EGM) or an equivalent body from a reciprocating jurisdiction, as either a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Mechanical Engineer-in-Training (EIT); or Certification as a Mechanical Engineering Technologist (CET). A recognized trade certificate, and extensive field experience in a related field may be considered
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, procedures and weld specifications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Strong written communication skills for preparing reports
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with the public and/or other stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple or competing priorities within tight timeframes
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
  • Ability to work as part of a team
Desired:
  • Experience with ASME Boiler/Pressure Vessel Codes (BPVC), pressure piping codes (ASME), and National Board Inspection Codes (NBIC) with respect to installation, operation maintenance, testing, repair, design or inspection of boiler, pressure vessels, and pressure piping equipment
  • Experience working in an environment focused on quality assurance principles
  • Knowledge of The Steam and Pressure Plants Act, The Power Engineers Act and The Gas and Oil Burner Act
Duties:
Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the review and registration of pressure equipment, review and inspect repairs, conduct inspections of newly constructed pressure equipment, and performs quality assurance (QA) audits of QA programs approved by the Branch to ensure compliance with the technical safety legislation, their supporting regulations, and all referenced codes and standards. These include, but are not limited to:
• The Steam and Pressure Plants Act;
• The Power Engineers Act; and,
• The Gas and Oil Burner Act.
