Introduction
The Regional Wildfire Superintendent (RWS) is a senior management position accountable to lead the delivery of the complex wildfire programming within the Western Fire Region. This position is responsible for development, planning interpretation, delivery, coordination and evaluation of policies, directives, programs and budgets and for authorizing and directing the activities and wildfire management staff within the Fire Region.

- Must possess and maintain a Class 5 Manitoba Drivers license.
- Must be willing and able to travel within the Province of Manitoba and Canada, with occasional overnight accommodation.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- A degree or diploma from an approved program in Resource Management or Emergency Management with related senior management level experience. An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered.
- Extensive and progressively responsible work experience in the management, administration and delivery of Wildfire program, or emergency management programing, including knowledge of prevention activities, emergency preparedness planning and response management.
- Extensive supervisory experience, including experience with performance evaluations/management, attendance management, discipline, investigating complaints/concerns, etc.
- Extensive Wildfire suppression experience, including following legislation policies, procedures and practices with proficiency.
- Financial management experience including: preparing, monitoring and controlling annual operating budgets and administrating salary, operating and capital budget areas.
- Effective strategic planning, problem solving, and decision making skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse levels of staff, other government agencies, non-government agencies and the public.
- Effective verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of staff, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Strong written communications skills, with the ability to complete high level authority seeking documents, Advisory notes and proposals.
- Experience with the use of various common software applications, which may include spread sheets, word processing, email, and internet applications.
- Knowledge of workplace safety and health programming.
- Knowledge and understanding of mandate and operations of department.
Duties:
The Western Region Wildfire Superintendent will work closely with Regional Branch staff to oversee the daily operations during the wildfire season, and lead planning and development initiatives on behalf of the Region during the non-fire season. This includes, but is not limited to all financial, capital, human resources, and program operations. The Regional Wildfire Superintendent will work closely with the Director of Wildfire, other Regional Wildfire Superintendents, and Provincial Fire Center staff to develop and implement provincial program initiatives and promote consistency across the province.
