The Wildlife Branch of Natural Resources and Northern Development is currently recruiting to fill the position of Human Dimensions Manager.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including at times, conducting field work in rough terrain and on water, during all seasons and under adverse weather conditions
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required
  • Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations at times, for within the Province of Manitoba, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile
Qualifications:
Essential:
  • Post-secondary education in biology, wildlife, natural resource management, ecology or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. 
  • Experience conducting community engagement and working with resource users including Indigenous communities, outfitters, hunters, trappers, wildlife organizations and landowners, particularly in the development of wildlife management plans
  • Experience working with acts and regulations pertaining to wildlife management, including an understanding of current Manitoba policy and principles relating to consultation and reconciliation with Indigenous communities, and Indigenous constitutional and legal rights as they relate to wildlife 
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective cooperative working relationships with diverse groups including government and non-government agencies, Indigenous groups, stakeholders and the public
  • Strong leadership skills, including experience leading teams through complex and challenging tasks 
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to initiate and complete projects effectively
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write scientific reports and plain language documents for a variety of audiences
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical and non-technical information to a variety of audiences
  • Experience in budgeting
Duties:
Under direction of the Wildlife Section Manager, the Human Dimensions Manager is responsible for leading a unit that coordinates human dimensions in wildlife management across the province. This position manages programs related to Indigenous engagement and consultation, stakeholder engagement, and shared management. Furthermore, the Human Dimensions Manager provides strategic professional leadership and advice to government on sustainable wildlife issues.
