The Department of Labour, Consumer Protection and Government Services is looking to recruit for clerical positions in The Consumer Protection Office and the Vital Statistics Branch in Winnipeg, MB.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Experience performing clerical and administrative duties in an office environment including; cash handling, data entry, preparing specialized or highly complex documents and processing detailed documentation and manual and electronic file maintenance 
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies and procedures and/or legislation or Acts to the general public
  • Experience working with the public in front-line customer services oriented environment (e.g. serving the public in person) 
  • Experience handling and maintaining sensitive material in a confidential and professional manner
  • Experience maintaining accuracy and paying attention to detail
  • Experience working independently with a high degree of initiative
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and make effective decisions
  • Ability to work co-operatively and constructively as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks in high pressure situations and competing priorities while meeting strict deadlines
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively with department staff, external agencies, other professionals and the general public
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to speak in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent written communication skills including writing letters and memos
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) or equivalent software

Duties:
Consumer Protection Office

Intake Clerk: The Intake Clerk provides direct front-line client service and performs a variety of tasks that directly impact all functions of the office. The Intake Clerk is the primary first point of contact for clients contacting the Consumer Protection Office. The role includes accepting and processing applications for licenses, authorizations, certifications, and registrations issued under the legislation the Consumer Protection Office is responsible to administer. They ensure applications are complete and meet the requirements of the applicable legislation. Once all requirements have been met, the appropriate licence is issued.  The position performs switchboard and reception duties, triaging complaints and inquiries, and responding to routine questions on the telephone and through e-mail relating to Consumer Protection Office activities, or referring the inquiry as appropriate. The position provides data entry and filing services, including electronically documenting consumer complaints, mail management, and processing and recording licensing revenue. The role also provides back up coverage for other licensing staff as needed.

Licensing Clerk: The Licensing Clerk provides direct front-line client service and performs a variety of tasks that directly impact all functions of the office. The role includes accepting and processing applications for licenses, authorizations, certifications, and registrations issued under the legislation the Consumer Protection Office is responsible to administer. They ensure applications are complete and meet the requirements of the applicable legislation. Once all requirements have been met, the appropriate licence is issued.  The Licensing Clerk provides back up coverage of the front desk for the Intake Clerk as needed and performs switchboard and reception duties, triaging complaints and inquiries, and responding to routine questions on the telephone and through e-mail relating to Consumer Protection Office activities, or referring the inquiry as appropriate. The position provides data entry and filing services, including electronically documenting consumer complaints, mail management, and processing and recording licensing revenue. Vital Statistics Branch

Reporting to the operational manager, the incumbent is responsible to examine documents filed for registration and issuance to ensure accuracy and completeness in compliance with The Vital Statistics Act, The Marriage Act, The Change of Name Act, as well as related regulations and other Acts; application processing; and provision of service in person, by phone or correspondence.
