Selkirk Mental Health Centre is a 252-bed facility that provides long-term mental health in-patient treatment and rehabilitation services to residents of Manitoba whose challenging needs cannot be met elsewhere in the provincial health care system.   • Must be a qualified Physical Therapist licensed to practice in the Province of Manitoba by the College of Physiotherapists of Manitoba.

Qualifications:

Essential:
 

  • Experience working in Physical Therapy. 
  • Experience assessing and planning processes and therapies that prevent disability, promote and maintain / restore functional performance. 
  • Knowledge of best practice standards and patient safety in the application of Physical Therapy.
  • Ability to model principles and practices of patient-centered care.
  • Effective interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of best practice standards and patient safety in the application of Physical Therapy.
  • Ability to take initiative for the purpose of addressing treatment matters.
  • Strong leadership skills to provide instructions and coaching to team members.
  • Ability to work co-operatively with interdisciplinary team members.

Desired:
 
  • Experience with Acquired Brain Injury rehabilitation.
  • Experience working within a mental health setting.

Duties:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Physiotherapist is responsible for physical therapy treatment and programming for patients at SMHC. This includes ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of physical therapy strategies/interventions in promoting the rehabilitation of persons with psychiatric illness, physical disabilities, and/or acquired brain injury. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of volunteers/students working with them. The incumbent also provides regular instruction, support, coaching, and professional leadership to patient/staff/families implementing physical therapy strategies/interventions.
