This unit is comprised of two distinct sections: (1) the Surveillance Unit and (2) the Epidemiology Team; that work closely together

Epidemiology and Surveillance is a unit of the Information Management & Analytics Branch, of the Performance and Oversight Division of the Department of Health. This unit is comprised of two distinct sections: (1) the Surveillance Unit and (2) the Epidemiology Team; which works closely together.  Their combined role is to support Public Health programs, policy, and decision making by monitoring, analyzing and reporting on the occurrence, spread, severity, and burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases and conditions in Manitoba.

Qualifications:

Essential:
 

  • Certificate or diploma in health information management, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience entering high volumes of data into several databases with accuracy.
  • Effective verbal communication skills to interact with colleagues, multiple levels of health care professionals, and the general public.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Experience with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desired:
 
  • Knowledge or application of PHIA, FIPPA, or other relevant privacy legislation.
  • Experience using an Electronic Medical Health Record (EMR).
  • Experience providing training, mentorship, and day-to-day operational oversight.

Duties:
Working in a complex and time-sensitive environment, the Surveillance Clerk provides multi-faceted clerical services to support front-line Public Health service delivery across the province.  Within a team environment, the Surveillance Clerk completes tasks such as:

  • Entering medical data relating to diseases reportable under the Public Health Act; filing data in both electronic and paper filing systems;
  • Ensuring accuracy and completeness of personal health information recorded; and
  • Communicating with Public Health practitioners throughout the province.
