Shared Health is looking for a Cook to join our team.  Selkirk Mental Health Centre (SMHC) is a 252-bed facility that provides specialized inpatient mental health and acquired brain injury treatment and rehabilitation services through five specialized patient programs: Acute, Geriatric, Rehabilitation, Forensic and Acquired Brain Injury.   • This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Completion of a recognized course in Commercial Cooking and experience in a large-scale commercial cooking operation (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Experience in coordinating food distrubution
  • Ability to apply food knowledge, specifically food safety requirements, safe work practices and Health Regulations
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines under pressure 
  • Ability to work independently
Desired:
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate

Duties:
The incumbent at Selkirk Mental Health Centre will be responsible for; Preparing ingredients, cooking meals, assisting with meal tray assembly including special dietary items, maintain sanitation and safety standards and providing coaching and leadership to kitchen helpers. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing suggestions on potential new menu items or recipes.
