NRND is recruiting for two Senior Inspector positions - Mining and Quarry / Oil and Gas .  When completing the application form, please indicate which position you are interested in.    

This competition will be used to fill two positions for the Department of Natural Resources and Northern Development (NRND).  Mining, Oil and Gas is a team of engineers, geologist(s), auditor(s), technicians, inspectors and administrative staff that ensure compliance with the Oil and Gas Act and the Mines and Minerals Act and associated regulations.

Note: The location of the Senior Quarry and Mines position is flexible; work can be carried out in Winnipeg, Dauphin, The Pas or Brandon.  The Senior Petroleum Inspector is located in Virden.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Manitoba driver's license
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • May be required to travel by air, water, off road vehicles and foot to remote locations in harsh conditions
  • Must be able to be on-call and work outside of the regular working hours
  • Must be physically capable of performing all of the required position duties including: sitting and standing for prolonged periods; prolonged walking outdoors and prolonged exposure to the elements; working in an active construction environment, which may require walking over uneven surfaces; physically capable of loading and unloading field equipment such as off-road vehicles and boats

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary education in agriculture, natural resource management or other science disciplines (i.e. Engineering or Geology). Equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience may be considered
  • Extensive experience in the upstream mining and quarry industry, including the monitoring of mining, quarrying and mineral tenure acquisition activities, application of engineering, geological, environmental and safety standards and practices as it relates specifically to the exploration, development, operation and production of mines and quarries (Note: for Quarry and Mines Inspector position only) 
  • Extensive experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, including the monitoring of  exploration and development activities, application of engineering, environmental and safety standards and practices as it relates specifically to the exploration, development, operation and production of oil and gas resources (Note: for Petroleum Inspector position only) 
  • Proficiency with word processing software, email programs, spreadsheet applications and databases
  • Excellent interpersonal skills which includes working collaborativly with a team and managing potentially high conflict situations effectively
  • Excellent verbal communication skills which may include presenting evidence for hearings
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff including providing training, guidance, and performance management
  • Experience in locating and navigating using the Dominion Land Survey system and GPS coordinates
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Experience in managing project budgets and expenditures

Duties:
The Senior Inspectors manages, trains and supervises other inspectors, as well as, plans, organizes, implements and reports on program delivery. The positions are responsible for the delivery of regulatory compliance and enforcement programs. The Senior Inspectors conduct field inspections, approves technical programs and applications submitted by industry.
