Motor Carrier Enforcement Programs is dedicated to enhancing public safety, promoting the economy, supporting sustainable development and protecting Manitoba’s investment in highway infrastructure through the development, administration and communication of enforcement programs, and services that facilitate movement by commercial motor carriers in a safe and efficient manner and promote uniform compliance with provincially, federally and internationally accepted standards.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must hold a valid Manitoba Class 4 or higher driver’s licence or be able to obtain one within the first three months of being appointed.
  • Must pass a medical assessment and demonstrate medical fitness to perform duties.
  • Must be capable of obtaining a certified Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Inspector within the first 12 months of employment.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership within a law enforcement or regulatory environment.
  • Experience in effective consultation with external stakeholder groups along with general Board and Committee experience.
  • Well-rounded supervisory experience in the areas of recruitment and selection, performance management/development and attendance management.
  • Experience and working knowledge with provincial procurement practices.
  • Extensive experience reviewing, revising and developing policies and procedures.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet competing deadlines.
  • Experience and/or the ability to interpret provincial and federal acts, regulations and policies-provide advice, guidance and recommendations to senior leadership, external agencies and groups.

Desired
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Program.

Duties:
The Staff Sergeant (Senior Officer) for Enforcement Operations reports directly to the Chief Inspector (Director) of Manitoba Motor Carrier Enforcement. The Staff Sergeant is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of motor carrier safety enforcement initiatives.  Principle objective will be to provide the means necessary for the agency’s 43 peace officers to operate in a manner that promotes public safety and protects highway infrastructure.  Monitoring of resources need to deliver programs, including staffing, uniforms, buildings, tools, vehicles and computers/software.
