This competition is to fill 2 regular full time and 3 term full time positions.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must produce a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must have a valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle, with the ability to travel within the Province of Manitoba
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends on occasion 

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary education in social services stream such as  Bachelor of Human Ecology; Family Studies, Bachelor of Developmental Studies; special needs/disabilities stream, or a Diploma in Early Childhood Education –ECE III; special needs/disabilities stream or other Bachelor Degrees in related disciplines in Early Childhood Development
  • Experience working in an early childhood environment with the focus on children with disabilities/special needs/behavioural issues.  Other combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered at an underfill or commensurate classification and salary
  • Experience assessing, developing and implementing an early intervention care plan through the use of demonstrated strong critical thinking skills, developmental and various curriculum based tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate empathy, positive attitude, collaboration, effective communication, active listening, conflict resolution skills and a patience approach  
  • Knowledge of disabilities/medical needs, inclusion, early child development stages and of basic treatment, techniques and best practices in early intervention 
  • Strong teamwork abilities with multi-disciplinary teams and program providers 
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks with competing demands
  • Effective verbal communications skills 
  • Effective written communications skills 
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently 
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Desired:
  • Experience working with The Community Child Care Standards Act, regulations and best practices related to inclusion, programming and curriculum

Duties:
Reporting to the Manager, the Child Development Worker (CDW) is an integral part of the Diversity and Inclusion Support Program and the multi-disciplinary team providing services to children with additional support needs in child care facilities province-wide. In this role the incumbent will work closely across program areas with Early Learning and Child Care Directors, staff, Child Care Coordinators, community organizations and specialists/therapists.

The CDW provides intervention services through observation and assessment to support the development of plans which may include modifications or enhancements to programs and/or environments including strategies to address behaviours or group dynamics in child care facilities. The CDW provides training to build staff capacity in diversity and inclusion and inclusive practices.
