The Design and Graphics Technician reports to the Senior Design and Graphics Technologist, and provides drafting services for works related to the preservation, design and construction of structures on the Water Infrastructure Capital and Preservation programs. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to travel on rare occasions throughout the province to visit worksites.
  • Must be able to work in uneven terrain, in or near potential worksite hazards such as water, construction equipment, roadway traffic, noise, dust, and in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, and lift up to 25 kg.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 Driver's license.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or graduated from a recognized CADD program with demonstrated work experience in computer aided drafting and design. An acceptable combination of experience, training and education may be accepted.
  • Experience with the preparation of design and construction drawings for earthwork, culvert, water control and/or flood protection infrastructure.  
  • Experience with digital terrain modeling, producing earthwork design volumes, and material balancing using Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) Software (Microstation / AutoCAD).
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • The ability to effectively problem solve situations independently.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.

Desired:
  • Experience with topographic survey using traditional method, total station and/or GPS.
  • Experience with use of GIS technology and tools.

Duties:
The successful candidate will be responsible for processing survey data, detailed earthwork volume designs and concepts, and preparation of drawings for environmental submission, land acquisition, design and construction.
