The Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth (MACY) is an independent officer of the Legislative Assembly and is independent of government. The Manitoba Advocate’s statutory mandate includes representing the rights, interests, and viewpoints of children, youth, and young adults receiving any designated or reviewable services as described under The Advocate for Children and Youth Act. The Manitoba Advocate also reviews and reports upon the standards and quality of those reviewable and designated services provided to children, youth, and young adults who have died, to educate the public and to enhance the safety and well-being of Manitoba children, youth, and young adults.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Manitoba Advocate, the Manager, Public Education supervises MACY’s public education division, and provides leadership and oversight on behalf of the Manitoba Advocate in developing and implementing the Office’s public education strategy and activities, as well as the Office’s internal and external strategic communication plans. Key duties involve MACY’s public education campaigns that raise awareness and understanding of children’s rights and the ways in which MACY interfaces with children, youth, service providers, and the general public. This includes ensuring high quality public-facing materials such as public reports, strategic public education campaigns, social media engagement, public messaging, presentations, and work in support of community engagement. The Manager, Public Education will also act as an adviser to the Manitoba Advocate and the Deputy Advocates, and provides expert advice on public education issues, trends, risks, and opportunities, and takes a lead role in mapping out, and delivering on, strategic public education objectives in a highly sensitive, political environment.
Competitive process: The competition will include a board interview and a comprehensive written assessment. The successful candidate will be subject to a six (6) month probationary period.
