Conditions of Employment:

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post secondary degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Public Administration or equivalent combinations of education and related experience may be considered 
  • Experience as a senior leader to create, support and sustain a diverse environment that enables staff to achieve results
  • Experience and/or ability to lead and coordinate complex and strategic policy projects related to legislation and intergovernmental relations
  • Ability to leverage opportunities for innovation, find creative solutions and successfully manage change
  • Management experience with responsibility for human resources
  • Management experience with responsibility for  financial resources, preferably with grant-making experience.
  • Experience translating strategic priorities into clear operational and business plans and experience with strategic performance management measurement systems (e.g. key performance indicators, balanced scorecards)
  • Political acumen demonstrated through experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex topics and sensitive issues
  • Strong written communication skills with experience writing and/or reviewing complex reports and information 
  • Strong verbal communication skills 
  • Superior interpersonal skills to negotiate and establish productive working relationships with a wide range of staff across government,  other governments and with external stakeholders

Duties:
The Executive Director supports the Minister of Families in fulfilling her mandate as Minister responsible for Accessibility and is responsible for the implementation of The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA) and its standards by almost 42,000 organizations in the public and privates sectors.  The Executive Director provides leadership in the interpretation of the AMA and its regulations in order to create public awareness and compliance among affected organizations.  The Executive Director also supports the smooth functioning of the Accessibility Advisory Council in fulfilling its mandate to develop and review accessibility standards, to guide activities of the government to improve accessibility, and to set long-term accessibility priorities. The Executive Director is also responsible for the Manitoba Accessibility Fund, including the annual distribution of grants based on the growth of a $20 million endowment fund dedicated to the implementation of the AMA principles and standards.
