In accordance with The Child and Family Services Act, The Child and Family Services Authorities Act and The Adoption Act, Winnipeg Child and Family Services (WCFS) provides a comprehensive continuum of child protection and family support services in Winnipeg. WCFS partners with the community to provide supportive and preventive services to families; protection services to children at risk of abuse and neglect; develops and provides basic and specialized placement services to meet the needs of children in care; and provides adoptive and post-adoptive services along with guardianship responsibilities to children, youth and families when reunification is no longer an option.  WCFS is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the role of a Family Finder Worker.  The work of the Family Finder Worker is based on a well-established practice model.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector, Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks, Prior Contact Check and a Driver’s Abstract
  • Valid Manitoba’s drivers licence, access to a vehicle, and the ability to travel throughout Winnipeg and surrounding areas
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends 

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary degree in Social Sciences, BSW preferred. Other acceptable combinations of post-secondary degrees and related experience may be considered
  • Experience in case management within a child and family services organization including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation and closure.
  • Experience working with families and children using General Authority Practice Model or a similar strength and engagement based practice model.   
  • Experience applying family finding principles and practices while working with children and families.
  • Excellent crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and establish working relationships with children, families, internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with interpreting Child and Family Services Act, Adoption Act, Authorities Act, policies, procedures, regulations and standards. 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing workload demands and meet time sensitive deadlines. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills  writing clear, concise documents and reports for a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications (MS Office: Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams).  
Desired:
  • Experience with the Child and Family Services Information System (CFSIS).
  • Experience in facilitating meetings with families and internal and external stakeholders.

Duties:
Under the direction of the Unit Supervisor, the Family Finder Worker will use specially developed skills and techniques to find family/non-family members and lead family/agency teams to support the children. The Family Finder Worker will work collaboratively with the child’s case manager throughout the family finding process. Due to the nature of working with children in care and their networks, the Family Finder Worker must also be able to provide any service from within the full range of statutory child welfare services, for example, assessing child safety and initiating protection interventions.
