Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post secondary education in the fields of Information Systems or Technology, Business Analysis, or an equivalent combination of formal education, training and related experience in the area of Information Technology may be considered
  • Experience in the area of business analysis including leading business analyst teams
  • Experience in supervising the work of others, with the ability to performance manage and establish work priorities
  • Experience fostering collaboration and partnerships with divergent stakeholders in various positions including senior and executive level officials
  • Experience working with technology suppliers to develop and implement Information Technology solutions
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions
  • Excellent organizational skills in order to manage competing timelines
  • Political acumen and the ability to manage confidential and politically sensitive material and situations in an appropriate manner
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience developing and maintaining a long-term Information Technology plan
  • Experience in the procurement of large Information Technology solutions
  • A strong understanding of current and emerging technologies

Duties:
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, the Director of Information Systems is responsible for providing direct supervision to the Information Systems Branch which includes Project Leaders, a Technical Analyst and a Web Coordinator. The Justice Information Systems Branch provides support to 30 different program areas each with their own unique business needs.  Throughout these program areas there are over 50 different software applications currently in use.

The Director is accountable for generating value from new departmental initiatives and information system investments by ensuring they include alignment of technology, policy and processes with overall departmental business strategies. The incumbent contributes to the development of the department’s annual information technology planning process and is the direct liaison with Business Transformation and Technology, ensuring through formal and informal meetings that customer relations and application management services are serving the needs of the department.

The Director works directly with the department’s Executive Management Council on the feasibility and priority of information technology proposals which have a major provincial impact to service delivery, governmental expenditures, and government planning processes.
