Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must have a valid class 5.0 driver's licence.
  • Must be able to work extended hours or periods of time as projects demand.
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor rough terrain environment and can be exposed to the following notable hazards as described in the OSHRM Safe Work Practices (road construction equipment, roadway traffic, noise, dust, hand/power tools, moving equipment, slip-trip-fall, bending/lifting, carrying/twisting, insects, vegetation & sharp objects, etc.)
  • Must be able to travel to work sites within the province by ground, water and air transportation.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Civil Engineering Technology diploma or completion of Manitoba Infrastructures Department Level 3 training program (with the exception of Design 3). An acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may be considered.
  • Experience in surveying (preliminary and construction).
  • Experience in specialized surveys (i.e. bridge, railway, DTM, etc.).
  • Experience with survey software (Eg: Carlson SurvCE).
  • Experience in GNSS guidelines, procedures and policies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety, Health and Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills. 
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and good judgment.

Duties:
The Regional Survey Technologist reports to the Regional Senior Project Manager and performs technically advanced paraprofessional work and provides survey support, establishes survey control on design and construction projects, provides evaluation on new survey technology and provides survey support to Construction Support Services on a province wide basis.The Regional Survey Technologist provides specialized survey training and support to Regional, Water Management & Structures (WM&S), Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) and Northern Airport & Marines Operations (NAMO) staff in all areas of survey.The Regional Survey Technologist position requires extensive interaction and co-operation with Construction Support Services, WM&S, Computer Aided Design & Drafting (CAD) staff and other Regional Survey Technologists to ensure the Department’s overall objectives are met.
