The Victim Services Triage Worker provides victims of crime with general information regarding the Criminal Justice System, short-term counselling, risk assessments, safety and protection planning and community referrals. This position is also responsible for working with victims to guide them through the complexities of the Justice System, and assessing victims' needs and ensuring the appropriate intervention is arranged.

Qualifications:
Essential:

• A Bachelor of Social Work degree or an equivalent related Social Sciences degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
• Case management experience in the social services field providing a full range of direct services to clients including: interviewing, performing assessments, planning, counselling, providing referrals and follow-up
• Knowledge of the effects of trauma, grief and loss
• Experience working with victims of domestic violence
• Knowledge of Indigenous culture including an understanding of the history and justice related issues
• Ability to work co-operatively and constructively as part of a team
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Excellent written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills  including the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels of government, other legal professions and the general public
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize a high volume of work
• Ability to work under pressure and to manage stress effectively while working in a high volume, high stress work environment
• Experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Outlook) or equivalent applications

Desired:

• Knowledge of Manitoba's Victims' Bill of Rights Act, The Domestic Violence and Stalking Act and other relevant provincial and federal legislation
• Knowledge of the criminal justice system and its components

Duties:
The incumbent triages all calls and carries a caseload of Canadian Victims' Bill of Rights (CVBR) matters. The incumbent performs risk assessments, completes safety planning, provides emotional support and short-term counselling, provides information about the case and the Justice system, and/or refers individuals to services that best meet their needs. The incumbent maintains communication with Crown attorneys about significant issues, views and/or concerns expressed by victims about their cases. The incumbent assists individuals with accessing and completing various forms. This position requires the use of Manitoba Justice Applications including PRISM, COMS and CCAIN.
