Victim Services helps people access their rights, understand their responsibilities and connects them to other services or agencies. Services are provided free of charge and are available in person, by phone, fax or Internet. As cases move through the criminal justice system, Victim Services provides court and criminal justice system information, counselling referrals, information about what to expect if subpoenaed for court, court preparation, safety planning and protection planning, information on possible financial assistance that may be available to victims of crime, information about victim impact statements and guidance on how to prepare them.

This is a Designated Bilingual position. The successful candidate must be able to communicate verbally in both official languages (French and English).

Qualifications:
Essentials:

  • Extensive experience performing a full range of clerical support duties, such as entering data, preparing correspondence, reception, and mail duties
  • Experience dealing with vulnerable people
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively with senior managers, other departmental staff, external agencies, professionals, and the general public
  • Ability  to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural or social backgrounds
  • Ability to work co-operatively and constructively in a team environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel or equivalent applications
  • Excellent French verbal communication skills
  • Excellent English verbal communication skills

Desired:
  • Experience with Manitoba Justice data management systems CCAIN and COMS.
  • Familiarity with The Victims' Bill of Rights Act and other relevant provincial and federal legislation

Duties:
This position provides administrative/clerical support to the program. The incumbent will be responsible for reception, answering incoming calls, meeting with clients to assist with forms, and providing information about programs and resources of interest to victims and witnesses.  It also requires use of various Manitoba Justice applications and databases. The incumbent is required to interact effectively in a team environment including peers, senior managers, other departmental staff, external agencies, professionals, and the general public.
