Introduction
The Field Surveillance Coordinator position functions as a member of Manitoba Health’s Environmental Health Policy Unit and reports to the Manager of the Environmental Health Policy unit or designate.  The incumbent is expected to work closely with the Provincial Consulting Entomologist, the Manager of the Environmental Health Policy Unit, the Medical Lead for Environmental Health or designate, the Public Health Lead Epidemiologist, and the WNV and Other Mosquito-Borne Diseases Scientific Committee in the implementation and oversight of the Field Surveillance Teams, quality control, and ongoing evaluation of the surveillance system throughout the season. The incumbent will also be expected to work effectively with various stakeholders (i.e.: municipal officials and staff). The incumbent will be providing training and coordinating the provision of any educational outreach activities that may arise with various stakeholders.  Additionally, the FSC will work together with epidemiologists and data analysts in the Epidemiology and Surveillance unit using GIS software and analytic techniques to geo-reference attribute environmental and public health data to support routine surveillance and enhance reporting strategies.
Duties:
This position will be responsible for providing supervision, operational and technical direction and assistance to the Field Surveillance Teams.  The current focus of this position is the West Nile Virus (WNV) Program. The position will also be responsible for the operational component of Manitoba Health’s active black legged tick surveillance program. Additional public/environmental health issues/programs may be assigned as appropriate.
Qualifications:

Essential:
- University Degree in health, natural sciences (e.g. biology, geography, entomology) or equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Experience in supervision.
- Experience with field work related to biological sciences
- Knowledge of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) software, specifically ArcView and ArcPad GIS software with knowledge of GPS
- Project management and project coordination skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- Strong team leadership and consensus building skills
- Excellent verbal skills
- Excellent written skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Knowledge of the provincial public health system, with special emphasis on environmental health
- Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point

- Experience in the health field, preferably with experience in public health
- Knowledge of the provincial public health system, with special emphasis on environmental health
- Good political acumen skills

Conditions of Employment:
- Must have a valid Manitoba Driver’s licence. 
- Occasional shifts in the field and on-call responsibilities are included in the position.
