Introduction
Conservation and Water Stewardship, Water Science and Management Branch is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Water Supply and Drought Management Engineer.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Full Stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the province and occasionally outside of Manitoba (within Canada and the United States). 
  • Must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Manitoba.
  • Must be physically able of performing the duties of the position including working on rough terrain, and possibly in adverse weather conditions.
     
Essential Criteria:
  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering combined with related work experience in a water resource engineering related field.
  • Knowledge in water resources in the areas of prairie hydrology, drought, and statistics.
  • Strong written communication skills, including experience writing technical reports, correspondence, and other formal documents.
  • Experience performing advanced hydrologic investigations for water resource management activities and water development proposals.
  • Experience in developing policies, procedures and standards.
  • Strong verbal communication skills including experience communicating technical information, and giving presentations.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills including the ability to work on several complex tasks simultaneously, and prioritize workloads to meet strict deadlines.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills, including experience working with colleagues, agencies and other non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience using computer software to analyze and solve water resource problems and manage large databases, including hydrologic models, statistical analysis software and GIS.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook or equivalent applications.
 
Duties:
This position provides a wide range of strong, scientifically- based services related to minimizing the impacts of droughts by undertaking studies related to drought planning, prioritization of water supply and conservation development projects.  The incumbent will also need to monitor, assess and forecast water demands by representing and coordinating longer term, advanced drought planning and water supply sustainability exercises with other provincial departments, neighbouring jurisdictions and the public.
