Duties:
The incumbent acquires, organizes, controls, and catalogues government publications; creates bibliographical records according to established library standards for the Library’s online catalogue; edits metadata for the Library’s Digital Collection. The incumbent also provides reference service to Members of the Legislative Assembly, the civil service, and researchers from the general public.
Qualifications:
This position requires a good general knowledge of library procedures derived from a recognized diploma program in library technology and on-the-job experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; recent extensive experience in deriving, revising or creating MARC catalogue records or serials control records; working with an integrated library system. Demonstrated ability to effectively and positively resolve problems, find solutions and follow through with concerns, ability to communicate effectively and reflect organizational values diplomatically with clients, vendors, publishers and colleagues. Demonstrated ability to use current Windows-based desktop tools (Word, Excel, and Outlook), Internet resources and basic HTML coding is also required. Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to plan and organize work to meet deadlines are all required. Desirable assets include: recent library reference experience; experience in organizing and control of government publication collections; and reading knowledge of French. The incumbent must be physically able to shelve library materials.
