Introduction
Manitoba Health is seeking a physician in public health and preventive medicine to join their team working for a vision of Healthy Manitobans through a balance of prevention and care.  There is one full-time regular position in the Prairie Mountain Health region. The successful candidate has the option of being located in either the Brandon or the Dauphin office.  Manitoba – Canada’s Heart Beats ....a place to call home!

  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
  • In good standing with the current licensing body.

  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.
  • As required, participate in the provincial system for MOH on-call coverage.
  • Travel is required.

Physicians licensed to practice medicine in other Canadian jurisdictions must be eligible for licensure in Manitoba
 
Essential:
  • Physician with advanced training or combination of training and experience in Public Health and Preventive Medicine, including: Fellowship recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; or recognized as a Specialist by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba; or Master of Science; or Doctor of Philosophy in Community Health Sciences, Master of Public Health; or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the following: population health assessment, surveillance, health protection, environmental health and hazards, communicable disease and injury prevention, health promotion and advocacy to reduce health inequities.
  • Excellent leadership skills.

Desired:

Duties:
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Public Health and Primary Health Care Division, the MOH is appointed by the Minister of Health to provide expertise and leadership and to exercise authority at the regional level with regard to:  enforcing The Public Health Act; assessing the health status and health threats of the region; assuring appropriate planning, monitoring and evaluation of health issues and appropriate communication and response to such issues; advocating for the preservation and improvement of health; assisting individuals, families and communities to preserve protect, and promote health.
 
The MOH is part of the senior community health team in their region that focuses on environments, conditions and prevention programs in Manitoba that enable citizens to be as healthy as they can be. They provide advice and expertise to the CEO, public health managers and nurses, public health inspectors and other stakeholders in the region in preparing for, and responding to, public health threats and risks.  These roles are carried out in a variety of settings, primarily through the programs and services of the five core functions of public health:  population health assessment, surveillance, health protection, disease and injury prevention, and health promotion.  The MOH has legislated authorities/duties under The Public Health Act.  The MOH participates in the provincial 24/7 on call service for public health urgent and emergency events.
