  • Valid Class 5F Manitoba Driver's License
  • Ability to travel
     
Essential Qualifications:
 
  • Post-secondary degree in planning (i.e. rural planning, city planning, urban and regional planning), preferably at the Master's level or a combination of a related degree (e.g. geography) combined with planning work experience
  • Experience in land use planning, including the review of development plans, zoning by-laws, and processing of subdivision applications
  • Effective written communication skills; reports, briefing notes and memos are consistently at a high standard that demonstrate the ability to present complex planning issues and recommendations clearly and concisely
  • Well developed interpersonal skills that facilitate cooperative and effective working relationships with office colleagues, other departments and clients
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy with the demonstrated ability to solve problems through negotiation, consultation, and collaboration
  • Effective verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability to clearly articulate ideas
  • Well-developed organizational skills including the ability to work under pressure; where assignments are completed consistently with accuracy, thoroughness and on a timely basis
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) with a good understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and its application to the field of planning
  • Ability to work independently with minimal assistance with the ability to identify potential problems and recommend solutions
  • Awareness and understanding of current planning and development issues in Manitoba communities

  • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners
 
 
Duties:
The Community Planner is responsible to provide professional services in the areas of community and regional planning to support sound decision-making by municipalities, planning districts, and landowners. The Community Planner assists the Regional Manager in the administration of the responsibilities delegated under The Planning Act and the Municipal Act, and provides advisory services to provincial departments and the public with respect to land use and sustainable development programs, projects, applications and interdepartmental initiatives.
