  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check, Child Abuse Registry check, and Adult Abuse Registry check
 
Essential:
  • Post secondary degree in Social Sciences (BSW preferred). Other acceptable combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
  • Child Welfare experience in dealing with children and families.
  • Experience conducting investigations including gathering and analyzing information to implement appropriate action.
  • Knowledge of The Child and Family Services Act, The Authorities Act, and The Adoption Act.
  • Thorough knowledge of the governing and delivery of child protection programming in Manitoba.
  • Strong political acumen to effectively communicate with a variety of individuals including senior government officials, executive management, and Authorities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work effectively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with grief and loss issues.
  • Ability to de-escalate conflict and provide resolution.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to pay attention to detail when preparing Authority Seeking Documents such as Briefing Notes and comprehensive reports.
  • Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Word.

Duties:

Reporting to and under the direction of the Senior Manager, the Issues Management Specialist is responsible for responding to inquiries and complaints from the public through a variety of sources; Including the Child Protection Branch Intake system, Division and Department management, and the Minister's and Premier's Offices, and then implementing appropriate action in order to alleviate or resolve client and public concerns.
