Conservation and Water Stewardship is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Photo Interpreter with Forestry and Peatlands Management branch.

Must be able and willing to travel occasionally throughout the province of Manitoba
Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position which includes occasional field work involving walking long distances over potentially rough terrain
Essential:
Post secondary degree or diploma in Forestry, Natural Resource Management or Environmental Science or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Ability to see in stereo using a traditional stereoscope
Experience identifying tree species in aerial photography
Knowledge of forest inventory systems including inventory classifications
Strong written communication skills
Strong verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with others
Experience using softcopy technology
Experience using Microsoft office or equivalent software
Analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
Experience with Geographic Information System(s) and relational database(s)
Desired:
Field experience in forest inventory such as cruising or other forest mensuration
Experience with digital data compilation techniques, base mapping and ortho tile databases
Duties:
This position is responsible to implement (undertake) forest vegetation inventories, disturbance and change mapping applications using technologies and methodologies of aerial photography and photo-interpretation, including softcopy work, field sampling and information management in a Geographic Information System environment. Incumbent ensures that the forest interpretation meets the requirements of Manitoba’s Forest Inventory standards and that a consistent, quality product is produced.
